RAF Heritage – WordPress-based collections platform

Artefacto collaborated with the Royal Air Force (RAF) Heritage team and Culture Heritage Digital to develop a new, modern and lightweight collections platform to help manage the RAF’s heritage artefacts.

The platform was designed to collate heritage data, from across individual squadrons, stations, units and station heritage centres and ensure artefact information can be uploaded and shared via an accessible and searchable collections’ website.

The site was built using WordPress to create a highly usable experience and ensure extensibility and interoperability with other platforms. We worked in an iterative way with the RAF Heritage team, incorporating feedback collected from testing the platform with digital heritage officers and other key user groups.

Onboarding and support workflows were also built into the platform to make it easier for new users to get started.

This is an internal platform designed to make it easier for heritage offers and others to manage the heritage collections across different RAF sites while allowing for future extensions to the platform.

We continue to work with the RAF Heritage team to develop the platform in collaboration with users.
